“What predicted a healthy diet more than anything else was the fact that it was being cooked by a human being and not a corporation.” – Michael Pollan
Many people come to my office wanting the “magic bullet” for whatever ails them. I often state that there is not a medicine that is best for everyone or even for each condition, but that there may be a key to each individual’s health waiting to be discovered. Food is one exception to that rule. There are very few chronic health conditions that do not improve with a shift towards a whole foods based diet. Eating from the ground, the tree, or the vine and as close as possible to the original source has health benefits that our modern science and research have only just begun to uncover.
I consider myself a perpetual student of nutrition, biochemistry, organic gardening, and cooking. Though I had my first Food Revolution many years ago, I continue every day to learn more about the importance of the food I choose to purchase, grow, and consume. Michael Pollan’s assertion that cooking for ourselves translates into physical and emotional health is absolutely true. I urge you to listen to his words, and – in small steps, over time – begin your own Food Revolution.
